MANFRED OEHMICHEN
Manfred Oehmichen (*1939) grew up and studied medicine in Göttingen, but he has always painted in his free time and pursued his passion for art as much as his professional career permitted. After gaining practical experience as a doctor in Bad Homburg/Saar and Kiel, he moved to Tübingen in 1969, where he lived with his family until 1982 and obtained a professorship in forensic medicine. From 1982 to 1989, he worked at the institute for forensic medicine in Cologne. Subsequently Manfred Oehmichen moved to Lübeck, where he became known as a scientist and director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Universities of Lübeck and Kiel. But even before studying medicine, he was strongly interested in visual art, drawing and painting almost daily. During his studies and while working, he followed current art trends by visiting exhibitions in Germany and abroad. Especially during his professional activity at the Kunstzentrum Köln in the 1980s, he expanded his activities and intensified his painting.
It has only been since his retirement, however, that Manfred Oehmichen has the opportunity to devote himself completely to art. While in the last century his art was mainly characterised by colourful, abstract and a mixture of geometric and organic acrylic paintings, he developed his own form of printing technique in the sense of monotypes, resulting in idiosyncratic images only in more recent years. His monotypes are characterized by a bright colorfulness, a special vitality and radiance, which follow an inner emotional and aesthetic-logical concept of the artist
