Karsten Konrad

Karsten Konrad creates sculptures, wall reliefs, and spatial installations from elements he scavenges like an archaeologist from junk or flea markets. He assembles sawed furniture pieces, painted chipboard, moldings, and chair backs into spatial kaleidoscopes. Their arrangement imparts energy and dynamism to the sculptures, with clear references to Minimal Art, architectural thinking, and the materialization of abstract ideas. Born in Würzburg in 1962, Konrad studied art in Mainz, Free Sculpture at HdK Berlin with David Evison and Marina Abramović, and at the Royal Academy of Arts. He has exhibited globally and taught at Berlin University of the Arts and China Academy of Art.
