Ned Smyth

Ned Smyth, a prominent artist since 1973, boasts an impressive international exhibition history spanning renowned venues like MOMA, The Venice Biennale, and PS1. His oeuvre includes over forty large-scale Public Art Projects, starting with his award-winning fountain for the GSA in 1977. Smyth's pioneering work in public spaces, including Battery Park City NY's "Upper Room," showcases his fusion of minimalism with architectural elements long before the advent of Post-Modernism. Early on, he incorporated historical architectural allusions, paving the way for the development of Public Art in the USA. Smyth's repertoire encompasses diverse mediums such as cement, fabric, metal, mosaic, and water, evolving over time to focus on natural organic forms and images, notably utilizing found glacial till stones in monumental sculptures and photographs since 2004.
