Nikolai Makarov

Nikolai Makarov, born on July 21, 1952, in Moscow, attended the Institute for Foreign Languages (1969-72) and worked at MOSFILM Studio (1974). He moved to East Berlin in 1975, studied at Humboldt University (1976-80), and attended the Academy of Arts under Werner Klemke and Rudolf Hausner (1984-87). Makarov became a member of the Austrian Society of Fine Arts in 1988 and currently directs the art association StilLeben e.V. in Berlin. He also served as the president of the Sergej Mawrizki Foundation since 2000. His notable works include "Hymns of the Night" (1992) and "The Late Freedom" (1988). He was a conceptual designer for Das Stille Museum, Berlin (1992-1994).
